The total volume of water flowing through the boilers depends on the quantity of the operating boilers in the boiler station. Not always the boilers are operating at the same time. The volume of water, flowing through the heating system of the building, is also unsteady. As a consequence, the risk of the flow fluctuation in the heat-transfer circuits is increasing. That is why it is necessary to separate the boiler and heating circuits from each other. Hydraulic arrow (Hydro arrow, hydraulic separator, thermal-hydraulic distributor, hydro distributor, hydraulic system) is a compensating chamber, which connects the boiler circuits with the heating system in general. It serves for normalization of temperature and volume deviation between two circuits of one flow. Thus, the hydraulic arrow makes the circuits dynamically independent during the transmission of the heating medium, but at that, it transfers heat from one circuit to another very well. The hydraulic arrow could be installed vertically or horizontally. In section it looks like piece of a hollow tube with a round or square section. Two inlet and two outlet nozzles, a sleeve for temperature measurement and perforated baffles are to be installed on it. The inlet nozzles perform a function of the boiler circuit connection, and the outlet nozzles serve the heating devise. The perforated baffle and the sleeve for temperature measurement are mounted in the hydraulic arrow reservoir.

The main advantages of the hydraulic separator usage:

  1. It simplifies the pumps selection significantly.
  2. The operating mode and life time of the boiler equipment is improving.
  3. The iron heat-transfer device is protected from heat impact.
  4. The hydraulic stability of the system and absence of imbalance.
  5. It could be used for effective sludge and air removal from the system.

If the hydraulic arrow is included into the system, the boiler operates smoothly and easily. If the system on the basis of the hydraulic separator is designed correctly, you will save 25 % of gas and 50 % of electrical power (in case of gas heating).

Due to all these specified advantages the hydraulic separators have widespread application in the heating systems of private houses and cottages.
